Oh Google – Alphabet?!
Well, I’ll make this post short and simple. Google is now ALPHABET! In case you didn’t know, yesterday had the tech and business community in a frenzy. Google announced its new makeover, with Sergey Brin and Larry Page taking the helm of Alphabet, leaving Sundar Pichai in charge as CEO of Google (see here to read more).
So here’s a breakdown of what is going to happen:
What Will Be Separated Under Alphabet?
- Calico, an anti-aging biotech company
- Sidewalk, a company focused on smart cities
- Nest, a maker of Internet-connected devices for the home
- Fiber, high-speed Internet service in a number of American cities
- Investment arms, such as Google Ventures and Google Capital
- Incubator projects, such as Google X, which is developing self-driving cars and delivery drones
What Will Remain Part of Google?
- Search
- Advertising
- Maps
- YouTube, the video service
- Android, the company’s mobile operating system
