WeChat – The Giant Mobile Messaging App in China

Just saw this great post via Andreessen Horowitz, (see here for full blog post) – a major VC firm based out of Menlo Park, CA. They are always posting new blogs about the latest tech industry news and new products. This post was no different, as it discussed a mobile messaging powerhouse, WeChat. I’ve written posts about Mobile Messaging Apps, including WeChat, previously – see here to see my post about WeChat. No different from my earlier post, WeChat is becoming a dominant messenger app not just in China, but outside globally as well. The post via, Connie Chan, talks about how the service is not just a messenger app, but much more.

WeChat is actually more of a portal, a platform, and even a mobile operating system depending on how you look at it. – Connie Chan, Partner @ Andreessen Horowitz

She is absolutely spot on when she refers to WeChat being just more than a simple messaging app. WeChat has all sorts of capabilities that go beyond simple text messaging. It has become a portal that incorporates all aspects of life. Everything from mobile shopping, to daily news feeds, to entertainment – WeChat has created an ecosystem that allows its users to do everything through its service. Connie further elaborates that fact that ‘WeChat has focused on building a mobile lifestyle — its goal is to address every aspect of its users’ lives, including non-social ones.’

With users becoming more and more mobile, it’s only a matter of time before these mobile messaging apps become a one-stop-shop for end users. Emojis, stickers, GIFs, will also become part of everyday conversations :).
